Sloe Centrale, EP NL’s Gas-Powered Plant, Implements Advanced Turbine Efficiency Upgrade

02.08.2023

Sloe Centrale, the gas-powered plant in the Netherlands and a subsidiary of EP NL, takes a significant step further increasing its efficiency and reduction of CO2 emissions by adopting a Siemens Advanced Turbine Efficiency Upgrade (“ATEP”).

EP NL, part of the EP Power Europe group, is dedicated to sustainable investments in the Netherlands, leveraging state-of-the-art technologies. On June 16th, 2023, Sloe Centrale signed an agreement with Siemens Energy B.V., solidifying its commitment to clean energy.

ATEP, derived from Siemens Energy’s gas turbine enhancements, is based on the proven SGT5-4000F gas turbine with a fleet size of over 300 units worldwide. It incorporates advanced   design, manufacturing and computational methods used in the Siemens Energy HL-class turbine. Once implemented at Sloe Centrale, the ATEP-investment will position the plant as one of the most efficient gas-fired power plants in the region.

The ATEP investment offers numerous benefits, including a substantial reduction in carbon emissions. Implementation of the upgrade will contribute to an annual reduction of 30,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, aligning with EP NL’s climate change mitigation efforts. The agreement supports the power plant’s operational lifespan, generating increased revenue for customers and supporting the decarbonization of the energy sector. The ATEP upgrade for both units of Sloe Centrale  is expected to be completed in 2024 and 2025

Niels Unger, CEO of EP NL, expressed  conviction about the sustainable opportunity, stating:

“Sloe Centrale’s adoption of ATEP demonstrates EP NL’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions. By integrating advanced turbine technology, Sloe Centrale leads the way in the energy transition, delivering reliable power generation while reducing environmental impact. Following the successful contract signing of implementation of ATEP technology at Enecogen power plant, which is 50% owned by EP NL, Sloe Centrale is the 2nd gas power-plant in the Netherlands which implements this sustainable technology.“
