What is a model contract?
A model energy contract is a standard form of contract to be offered by all energy suppliers in the Netherlands licensed for small consumers. This contract, established by the Authority Consumer & Market (ACM), offers consumers and small business users a variable tariff for electricity and gas. The rates of the model contract change twice a year, and the contract has an indefinite duration. This means that you can cancel it at any time free of charge, with 30 days notice.
The model contract is designed to allow users to easily compare the tariffs and conditions of different energy suppliers. This allows you to make an informed choice, without committing to long-term contracts. While the model contract is not always the cheapest offer, it does provide clarity and transparency.
This contract is intended for small users, including consumers and businesses with a connection of up to 3×80 amps for electricity and 40 m³(n) per hour for gas. The use of a model contract ensures that all essential information, such as charges, advance amounts and supply conditions, is clearly and uniformly recorded.
