Why is there a electricity label?

Every year we are required by law to indicate the origin of the electricity we supply to end users. We do this by publishing a ‘power label’.

Please note: The power label provides information on the origin of the electricity supplied to business end users, but does not provide information on the electricity generated.

In 2018, the Energy Transition Progress Act came into force. This Act makes various amendments to the Electricity Act 1998 and the Gas Act to further facilitate the transition to a sustainable energy supply. One amendment introduced a full transparency system to provide greater clarity on the origin of electricity in the Dutch energy sector. Electricity suppliers are required to provide a guarantee of origin (green electricity) or a certificate of origin (grey electricity).

Disclosing the origin of the electricity supplied thus creates more transparency in the Dutch energy sector. Electricity suppliers are required to document the supply of electricity with a guarantee of origin (GvO) or a certificate of origin (CvO).
