Transport fee EP NL energy
As a business energy customer of EP NL energy, you pay a monthly transport fee for transporting gas over the national network. This fee is essential for the maintenance and development of the gas network, ensuring you a reliable gas supply.
Your gas transport tariff
Update on gas transmission charges as of 1 January 2026
The national gas transmission tariffs have been increased by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) with effect from 1 January 2026.
As a result, the rate for profile connections will increase from €0.01402 per Nm³ to €0.02785 per Nm³ (excl. VAT).
This adjustment follows from the GTS 2026 Tariff Decision, under which Gasunie Transport Services (GTS) is required to apply higher national transmission charges. The reasons for this include a decline in total gas consumption and higher energy and financing costs. Under your agreement, EP NL is entitled to pass on these national tariffs. The new tariffs will therefore apply retroactively from 1 January 2026.
These charges are expressed in euros per standard cubic metre and apply to your gas consumption.
What do you pay and why?
The transport fee covers the costs of transporting gas via the national network of Gasunie Transport Services B.V. (GTS). EP NL charges this fee directly to you and states it separately on your invoice. We transfer the collected amount to GTS, which is responsible for the management and maintenance of the gas network. This fee is expressed in euros per standard cubic metre and applies to your gas consumption.
Previously, the transport fee depended on the region (postcode) in which your company is located. The greater the distance from Groningen, the higher the regional surcharge. As a result, companies in Zeeland, for example, paid a higher rate.
Since 1 January 2020, this has changed. GTS has replaced the regional surcharges with a single uniform postage stamp tariff. This means that all companies in the Netherlands now pay the same tariff for gas transport, regardless of their location.
Background of the amendment
This adjustment is the result of European legislation and the Authority Consumer and Market (ACM)’s decision on 11 December 2018. The aim is to make the gas market more transparent and fair, and to promote competition by applying equal transport costs for all regions.
GTS manages the national gas transmission network and ensures safe and efficient gas transport. Your transport fee supports the maintenance and development of this network. The transport fee is based on GTS’s tariffs and is subject to change. EP NL may charge you for these adjustments, with or without retroactive effect. We will keep you informed of important changes.

Frequent Asked Questions
-
Why is the change being applied retrospectively?
As the new rates come into force by law on 1 January 2026, suppliers must apply them from that date once the ACM has officially set the rates. We must therefore adjust the transport costs from that effective date.
-
Why is EP NL charging me these costs?
EP NL passes on the official GTS transmission tariffs as set out in your contract. The ACM has set the new GTS tariffs with effect from 1 January 2026. We are therefore entitled to pass these revised tariffs on to you. This applies to all suppliers in the Netherlands and is standard practice in the energy market.
-
Why are gas transport costs set to rise so sharply in 2026?
National transmission tariffs are set annually by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). For 2026, the ACM has determined that GTS’s transmission tariff will rise by an average of approximately 50%. This is mainly due to the fact that total gas consumption in the Netherlands is falling, meaning that costs are spread across a smaller volume. In addition, adjustments to GTS’s revenue are higher due to factors including rising energy costs and higher interest rates.
