Energy tax exemption for business customers

Under certain conditions, you as a business customer can claim a reduced rate or full exemption from energy tax. EP NL is ready to support you in this regard. Below is an overview of the various declarations you can submit to apply for a more favourable energy tax calculation. Do you have any questions? Contact our business customer service team for direct support. With this legal regulation, the government aims to guarantee full transparency about the origin of all electricity in the Netherlands, which is important for companies that value sustainability and responsible energy consumption.

Energy tax exemption application forms

This declaration allows companies and institutions to request EP NL to treat electricity or gas connections as one WOZ object, so that energy tax zones can be applied once. However, merging gas and electricity connections is not allowed. Send this declaration together with a copy of your WOZ assessment.

1. WOZ property Energy tax statement

This declaration allows companies and institutions to request EP NL to treat electricity or gas connections as one WOZ object, so that energy tax zones can be applied once. However, merging gas and electricity connections is not allowed. Send this declaration together with a copy of your WOZ assessment.

2. Energy tax pass-through statement Electricity

Business customers who resupply electricity to others with a connection to a Closed Distribution System (CDS) can use this declaration to have EP NL adjust their energy tax. Make sure the necessary documents are attached and that you correctly remit the energy tax to the tax authorities.

3. Complex determination

This declaration is for companies and institutions with electricity connections for which no Property Assessment Order is issued (e.g. public lighting or sewage pumps). When these connections fall under the same legal entity and belong to each other, they can be classified as one property. This process is called complex determination.

4. Statement for Gas and Heat Consumption in the Garden Industry

Business customers in the horticulture sector are subject to a lower energy tax. Use this declaration if you use natural gas or supplied heat to promote the growth process of the Garden Industry. This offers you tax benefits at EP NL energy.

5. Statement for block heating

This statement is intended for companies that use gas for block heating. EP NL energy charges the highest tax rate (zone 1) for this supply, and you can then reclaim (partial) energy tax from the Tax Office.

6. Statement for natural gas consumption Cogeneration plant (CHP)

Business customers with a combined heat and power (CHP) plant can apply for full energy tax exemption for the gas consumption of their CHP plant. Submit this declaration to EP NL energy for a more favourable tax calculation.

FAQ

  • Our company’s billing address changes. How do I report this?

You can communicate your changed billing address via the contact form on our website.

  • I would like to pay by direct debit. How do I arrange this?

You can sign up for direct debit via the contact form on our website.

  • When will I receive my annual statement?

You will receive your annual statement at the beginning of the first quarter after the supply year, if you receive monthly advance bills.

  • How are EB and ODE calculated if I feed back to the energy grid?

This depends on the type of connection. With a small consumer connection, netting takes place. This means that the feed-in is deducted from the supply. You only pay EB and ODE on the remaining supply (consumption). If the feed-in is higher, you do not pay any EB and ODE. This balancing scheme does not apply to high-volume connections.

  • What is the capacity tariff?

The capacity tariff is a fixed transmission charge for small consumer connections. The larger the connection, the higher the tariff.

  • Why transport costs are mapped

Transport charges are levied for maintaining the networks and transporting your energy.

Transmission tariffs are set by the Authority Consumer & Market (ACM), the energy industry regulator. These tariffs consist of a fixed and a variable part. You can consult the current transmission tariffs on the website of the Authority Consumer & Market.

  • When will I receive my monthly bill?

We invoice as soon as we receive the consumption data from your network operator. If we have not received any consumption data after 21 working days, we will estimate your consumption for the past month. In that case, you will receive an invoice based on this estimate.
On the eleventh working day of each month, EP NL receives your electricity consumption data from your grid operator. For gas, this is usually done on the sixth working day of the month.

  • Are all connections billed separately?

If you have multiple connections within the same supply contract, there are different billing options:

    • You will receive one invoice per connection.
    • You receive one invoice for all connections.
    • You can cluster your connections and receive one invoice for all connections within a cluster

It is important that you indicate which billing method you prefer. You can easily communicate this via the Contact form.

  • When is there an accommodation function?

A residential function exists when the connection is located in a building where people can live and/or work.
For a complete overview, please visit our residential function page.
