Why do I pay more energy tax in January than in December?

Energy tax is divided into different zones. On 1 January, your consumption is reset to zero and you start in zone 1, the zone with the highest energy tax rates. As your consumption increases throughout the year, you move through the zones with lower rates, paying less energy tax.

When you receive an advance bill, the energy tax is divided proportionally among the predefined zones. At the annual or final bill, the actual consumption in the respective zones is settled.

You can find the different zones and corresponding energy tax rates on our Energy Tax page.
