About Rijnmond
Rijnmond is a sitelocated at Vondelingenplaat near Rotterdam-Pernis that holds two gas fired power plants, Rijnmond 1 and Rijnmond 2. The synergy of both plants is used to operate them with an efficient organisation and the plant’s flexibility enables EP NL to quickly respond to changing market conditions such as gas prices, the availability of sustainable energy sources and network conditions.
Why Rijnmond ?
The Rijnmond team is a motivated, qualified team that collaborates to get the best performance out of the plant. Care for health, safety and environment are key priorities. We provide electricity to the national grid and support the stability of the local electricity grid.
Gas fired power plants are the cleanest option of providing reliable grid support during the energy transition and have possibilities to switch to green gas in a later stage of the energy transition.
Rijnmond 1
The Rijnmond 1 power plant is a gas-fired high-efficiency power plant and has two gas turbines. Exhaust gas boilers are located behind the gas turbines. The power plant is connected to the national grid at the TenneT switching station Waalhaven through three underground 150 kV connections.

Rijnmond 2
The Rijnmond 2 power plant is a gas-fired high-efficiency power plant and has an installed capacity of 426 MW. The power plant is equipped with a deNOx installation, making it one of the cleanest gas power plants in our country. Through a 13 km long underground connection, the power plant is connected to the 380kV grid at the TenneT switching station Simonshaven.

With a cumulative capacity of 2.6 GW, EP NL has become the third largest operator of power plants in the Netherlands.
The supply of electricity from renewable energy sources is increasing rapidly. Low-emission ,modern gas-fired power plants provide the necessary flexible power to the energy system. Thanks to the flexibility of the power plants, we can respond quickly to changing market conditions such as gas prices, renewable energy sources and network conditions.
Electricity production from low-emission gas-fired power plants is necessary to guarantee security of supply at all times. EP NL ensures a stable energy supply in the complex energy transition. EP Netherlands is part of the EP Power Europe (EPPE).
