Energy tax for business customers

As a business buyer of energy, you pay energy tax on every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity and cubic metre (m³) of natural gas you consume. This tax is set by law and adjusted annually by the government. At EP NL, we like to keep you up to date with the latest developments so that you are prepared for what will change in 2024.

From 1 January 2025, there will be changes to the provisional energy tax rates on electricity and gas. These changes directly affect business energy consumers, and it is important to stay up to date with the latest rates.

Key energy tax changes for 2025:

  • Removal of energy tax for charging installations: From 2025, the energy tax on electricity for recharging installations will disappear.
  • Increase in energy tax for shore power installations: Energy tax rates on shore-based power installations will be increased.
  • Increase in refund for residential function: Businesses with a residential function can expect an increased refund of €524.95 per year (excluding VAT) in 2025.
  • Increase in energy tax on natural gas for horticulture: The energy tax on natural gas for horticulture companies will be increased, while the tax on electricity will be reduced.

What does this mean for your business?

These changes are part of the Dutch government’s broader strategy to accelerate the energy transition and promote more energy-efficient behaviour.
